CENTRE NEARS THE JACK

Swansea Leader – Issue 32 – November 2004

PLANS for a state-of-the-art £1.2m international bowls facility for Swansea are a step closer to fruition.

Swansea Council has submitted a planning application for the centre on council-owned land next to the Somerfield supermarket in Gorseinon.

Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Gerald Clement said, “In view of the success of indoor bowling in the city, and the ability of our local bowls association in attracting national and international events here, we are delighted to be investing in this brand new facility.”

Designed to meet modern day requirements for access from all areas of Swansea, the arena will be capable of meeting the needs of up to 1,000 members.

The facility is expected to be open in time for next year’s indoor season.
